      October Update - 2009

    • Cool weather has arrived, and with it some exciting menu changes. Look for a Daily Special from Tuesday thru Friday, with Salmon as our chosen feature on Tuesdays, Chicken on Wednesdays, Pork on Thursdays and Pot Roast on Fridays. The menu provides more detail. And only $6.95!
    • We've decided to kick things up a notch in our meat department, meaning no more processed smoked turkey or ham. Instead, we're baking our own chicken breast in place of the turkey, and we're buying real dry-cured smoked ham. We do apologize to our smoked turkey fans---if we can find good smoked turkey, we'll try to bring it back.
    • Caramelized Apple Slices layered with toasted Pound Cake croutons and whipped cream---just one of our ideas of how to tempt you with the fall apple crop. Served warm! Outrageously good.
    • Also in the apple department, real Apple Cider spiced with Cinnamon and Clove and mixed with Darjeeling first flush blend, for a warm to your toes delicious drink. Also made in-house is a tangy Cranberry Juice drink with Orange Juice, Lemon, Cinnamon stick, Allspice berries, and whole Cloves, and no caffeine in this one.
    • More apologies, this time to everyone who has enjoyed our Chicken Salad and Salsa Salad. These items seem more appropriate to warmer weather, and so we're putting them on the shelf, so to speak, til next May.
    • Check our three new tea sandwiches --- Cheddar and Spinach, on Wheat (toasted) and Ham and Provolone, on Rye (toasted), plus Roasted Chicken with Pesto, on White.
    • Buttered Mushroom Sandwich ! Locally grown organic Shiitakes sauteed in Butter, layered on bread of your choice (we recommend our new Sourdough) with Caramelized Onion, Roasted Red Peppers, Tomato, Lettuce, and a cheese of your choosing (we recommend Pepper Jack). Holy Toledo Batman!
    •

      September Update - 2009

      Did someone say Cherry Cobbler?!

    • Dessert Alert: We're waiting for the apple crop with French Coconut Pie, Cherry Cobbler, and Cheesecake with Caramel, Toffee Bits, Chocolate Fudge, or Nectarine Slices. All this plus our regular Bodacious Chocolate Cake, Brownies, and those sweet little Brown Butter Cookies. And then there will, as usual, be surprises. Don't miss it!
    • For the next couple of weeks, we'll be offering a French Dip Sandwich. On Crusty French, this tender delicious Simmered Beef is covered with Provolone plus Sauteed Onions with Garlic and Green Chilies. Served Au Jus. Oh my. If you fall in love, let us know. We might add it to our regular menu.
    • The 2009 Darjeeling Lingia Estate First Flush* shipment has arrived! Sophisticated, fruity and flavorful, Lingia boasts the fullest body of all our supplier’s high-end 2009 first flushes. This unique offering will appeal to the true Darjeeling connoisseur. Organically grown by India's Lingia Estate and plucked from purely Chinese plants (over 100 years old), the tea goes through an additional re-firing (or gapping) just prior to packing to secure its prized characteristics.
    • *FIrst flush refers to the first spring picking of the plant's bud and top leaf, when the full strength of the plant has risen from winter dormancy to bring its power to the growing tip. The most prized picking of the year.

      August Update - 2009

    • Friday High Tea! We're making High Tea a weekly treat for tired hungry workers finally hitting the weekend. Check our special Friday High Tea page for a menu calendar.
    • Arkansas peaches are rolling in tangy and sweet! Juicy crusty peach cobbler is baked just about every day.
    • Cheesecake has become so popular we're going to try to keep it on hand all the time. Right now our fabulous cheesecake topping is ---- fresh peaches!
    • More peaches -- a special dessert glass of delicious peaches topped with sweet heavy cream and served wtih a toasted slab of poundcake. Or you can choose to have your peaches topped with vanilla ice cream. Summer was never so good!
    • Closing in on the Key Lime Pie season --- grab it while it lasts.
    • Last but not least -- another improvement to the premises! We've got a roof over the side deck, making it a cozy protected location for those extra seats outside. Check it out.
